How Bobi Wine beat tight security at home and surfaced in city centre

Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi commonly known as Bobi Wine yesterday paralysed parts of the city centre where he suddenly surfaced after beating tight security at his home in Magere.

His supporters and onlookers were shocked to see him after reports that he had been confined under house arrest.

Yet the question is: How did he do it?

We have been told that as early as 8.00PM on Tuesday, police deployed at his residence after the MP insisted that he will hold the Osobola concert at his One Love Beach even without police permission.

Police officers were put on all exits while another group patrolled the fence.

But Bobi Wine had other ideas.

Sources said Bobi Wine somehow found his way out early on Wednesday morning with the assistance of some people.

Later in the afternoon, he surfaced at his studio in Kamwokya to the surprise and shock of many people. He was riding on a boda boda.

He told the people at Kamwokya that he was headed to One Love Beach in Busabala to hold his concert.

Then he took a detour to the city centre where crowds gathered to cheer him on.

Police was forced to fire teargas and live bullets to disperse the crowd. In the ensuing confusion, Bobi Wine escaped and surfaced at his home in Magere where he addressed the media.

“All this [blocking my shows] is done because President Museveni is very scared of the ideas we represent. He believes by blocking us from communicating, by stopping us from enjoying our rights, he is going to disempower us but we are here to say “Osobola”,”he said.

Deputy police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango said police had allowed Bobi Wine to leave his home so he did not escape.

“It is not true that he escaped from us. We let him go. He is not under any kind of restriction but we are monitoring his movements,” he said.

On the issue of trying to arrest him, Onyango said the force wanted to protect him.

“When he was being driven at high speed on a motorcycle his life was at risk so we wanted to advise him not to put his life at risk,”he said.
