Golf: Tanzania wins 2019 East and Central All Africa Challenge

Tanzania won the East and Central All Africa Challenge trophy 2019 after returning 695 strokes play after 54-hole play at Entebbe Golf Club.

The hosts Uganda came second with 721 strokes and Kenya came third with 748 strokes after three days of golf at Entebbe Golf Club.

Tanzania’s lady golfer Iddi Madina was the woman to watch on the course.

Madina had 76 strokes on day one, 73 strokes on day two and 71 day to make a total of 220 strokes alone for Tanzania.

Her team players; Angel Eaton, Hawa Wanyeche, Neema Olomi scored the 475 strokes to help Tanzania to win this year’s trophy.

Uganda team Captain Irene Nakalembe returned 81 strokes on day one, 78 on day two, 75 day three to total 234 stokes.

Her team mates Martha Babirye, Gloria Mbaguta, Peace Kabasweka had 487 stokes to help Uganda came second with 721 strokes.

Kenya’s Mercy Nyachama Nyabende got 245 strokes in three days, her teammates; Agnes Nyakio Gitau, Margaret Njoki Muchino scored 503 strokes. Kenya was only team with three representative, all other teams came with four players.

In the individual category; Tanzania’s Iddi Madina emerged winner with 220 strokes, Uganda’s Irene Nakalembe came second with 234 strokes while Martha Babirye from Uganda came third with 238.

Tanzania’s Iddi Madina said that they played as a team.

“We have praying to God so that we win this tournament and every evening we have been seating together planning on how to win. We gave advice to each other to focus on our games if we were to win, “ said Madina.

According to Irene Nakalembe the team captain team Uganda, the tournament gave them new tests and experience on how to win.

This is the second time Uganda hosting the East and Central all Africa Challenge trophy, the first one being the inaugural tournament in 2009 at Uganda Golf Club.

This is third time Tanzania is wining the challenge trophy.

Zambia which did not participate this time has won it twice. Uganda and Kenya are only countries yet to win.
