Five People Charged For Kidnap, Police Boss Daughter Goes Missing

Five people in Tororo district are facing charges over kidnap with intent to secure ransom.

According to police, the suspects who were Friday arraigned in courts of law were arrested last week from Kampala by a team of joint security forces.

In the operation, security also rescued an 11 year old male juvenile identified as Richard Munwero, a primary two pupil at Tororo Education center.

It is said that the suspects kidnapped the victim from Tororo and transferred him to Kampala and immediately started demanding for a ransom.

Spokesperson Fred Enanga said that they demanded for 2.6 million shillings and threatened to kill him if the parents failed to pay.

“The Parents reported to police and in collaboration with our counterparts from CMI we tracked down and arrested the suspects,” Enanga said.

Security said that they first arrested a one Isaac Ofono aged 24 who is a step brother to the victim and resident of Kyaminula zone in Tororo.

In Kampala, four people were arrested including the one who was harbouring the victim and a lady whose phone was used to demand for the ransom.

The suspects have been identified as Charles Baale, Catherine Nabiffo, Robert Kakeeto and Alex Sikubwawo.

Detectives first interrogated the suspects at Special Investigations Unit in Kireka before transferring them to Tororo for charges.

Relatedly, Police is investigating the disappearance of a daughter of Commissioner Jacob Opolot who has been missing for a month now.

In an announcement released by Police, the Commissioner’s daughter went missing on 28/8/2019.

“Commissioner of Police OPOLOT JACOB of FFU headquarters announces the disappearance of his daughter Cathirine Among aged 17 years old went missing on 28/8/19 at Bulindo Kiira division, a case of disappearance was registered at Kiwologoma Police Post under reference 6/29/8/19,” reads part of the announcement.
