NUP to Mabikke: “You came short in the vetting process”

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has asked the former Makindye East Member of Parliament Michael Mabikke to stop misleading the public by feeding them with wrong information about the party vetting process.

The party was responding to allegations made by Mabikke while appearing on different media houses that the party’s electoral process is dominated by corruption and tribalism.

Recently while appearing on NBS TV, Mabikke claimed that he scored 45 out of 50 from the vetting process adding that his results were changed in the favour of his opponent who was given the party ticket for Makindye East parliamentary race.

In a statement issued over the weekend, the NUP electoral committee chairperson, Mercy Walukamba said Mabikke’s misleading statements are aimed at discrediting the party’s vetting process which must stop with immediate effect.

“We have noted with concern the repeated statements by Hon Michael Mabikke in the media that his marks from the candidate’s selection process were tampered with,”said Walukamba.

“Ordinarily we don’t release candidate’s scores to the public however given the continuous misleading statements intended to discredit our vetting process,we hereby clarify that Hon Mabikke scored 22 points out of 50 before the vetting committee and 37 out of 50 from the ground study, giving him a total of 59%.”

According to Walukamba, Mabikke’s competitor who secured the flag scored a total of 78 per cent.

“Its therefore not true that his results or those of any other candidate were tampered with. All aggrieved candidates have been advised to petition the executive board for possible redress,”she said.

Walukamba claimed that Mabikke while appearing on one of the radio stations in Kampala made a different statement from that he made during NBS morning breeze show hence contradicting himself.

” The original forms showing the marks which each candidate obtained, bearing signatures of the committee members are available for reference,” Walukamba noted.
