NRM submits signatures for Museveni’s nomination
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) on Friday submitted lists of signatures of registered voters to the Electoral Commission supporting the nomination of President Museveni as the party presidential flag bearer in 2021.
Deputy NRM secretary general, Richard Todwong, who represented his boss, Kasule Lumumba, said the party had collected over five million signatures from registered voters across the 142 districts of Uganda.
“We are submitting early enough to enable the commission carry out the verification exercise on time,” Todwong said.
Speaking on behalf of the Electoral Commission, Leonard Mulekwa, the acting EC secretary, commended NRM for honouring the national road map.
“We opened up yesterday and NRM is the first to respond”, said Mulekwa. He further added that a certificate would be issued on completion of the verification.exercise.
The NRM deputy national treasurer Jacquline Kyatuheire commended the party members across the country for their overwhelming response towards this exercise.
She was quick to apologise to the rest of the members that the Secretariat couldn’t reach out to all members who wanted to be part of the exercise.
Museveni will be officially presented to EC for nomination by the NRM on November 2 at 10am.
