Kamuli to watch as ‘close friends’ Musumba, Kadaga start battle

Nominations for Members of Parliament hopefuls starts today and will go until tomorrow. The day comes with so much flair, mobilization, and chaos on both ends; at the beginning and at the end.

Some are kicked out, some realize they can not go so far and opt-out, some are bought out, while some are actually kidnapped and whisked away until the end of the nomination (this happened to an FDC candidate somewhere in the west the previous elections).

Important to note is that every candidate at this point is popular, they are able to mobilise a few people to chant their name, obtain a nice car with a sunroof where they will wave a brand new white hankie, posters are on point, and the likes.

Aside from the uncertainty that faces candidates who will not be able to raise nomination fees of actually go through the EC vetting, it is time to look at the places where we expect a showdown- Kamuli District

Musumba and Kadaga have set up the most mouthwatering race (on paper), and today they endorse this race with both getting nominated.

While it is not clear what time Kadaga intends to be nominated, we can confirm that she like Musumba will all be nominated today, with the latter’s nomination set for 2:00 pm.

Musumba will be escorted by her spouse, Kadaga’s political rival Isaac Isanga Musumba of the National Resistance Movement.

It should be noted that Kadaga has recently complained that certain people, including Isaac Musumba, were fighting her in Kamuli and are behind placing candidates to compete for her position.

Notwithstanding, Salamu Musumba and Kadaga are very good friends that during celebrations to mark 78 years of Kyabazingaship in 2017 in Namutumba District, Kadaga pleaded with Museveni to give Salamu a job.

“Your Excellency, your former members of parliament from Busoga should be looked at. Some of them were left with no source of income yet they did very good work when they were still in those positions. Key among them is your usual friend Salaamu Musumba. Kindly find some room for her,” Kadaga said amidst cheers from the mammoth crowd.

Now Musumba joins the race against her referee, and no matter how it ends, for the first time, Kadaga has a competition on her hands twice in a space of just months; First, it was through Persis Namuganza and now the iron lady of FDC- Musumba.

In the 2016 elections, Kadaga hit her rival Deborah Mwesiga for the dead, the difference between them was about 60,000 votes, this granted her another chance at representing Kamuli on affirmative action again.

Kadaga has been representing Kamuli on the same post since 1989, making it 31 years, can Musumba upset the record?

Well, Musumba may not uproot Kadaga, but she will not perform abysmally like her predecessors who have competed against Kamuli’s political cult leader.

Musumba may have shaken Kamuli one time, but she has by far fallen off the grid, her freshest injuries obtained in a loss against Rehema Watongola in Kamuli Municipality.

Musumba’s team claimed then that they were betrayed by Kadaga who openly endorsed Watongola and as such, they have come to fetch her seat.

It could end in tears again, but who knows if it is time up for Kadaga who has amassed many political enemies in the last four years?
