Joshua Cheptegei Breaks 15-Year Old 10,000m World Record
Ugandan long distance runner Joshua Cheptegei could become the World’s greatest runner ever following another record breaking victory on Wednesday night.
Cheptegei clocked 26 minutes and 11 seconds during the special NN World Record Day event in Valencia, Spain marking his fourth world record in 10 months.
He earlier smashed a long standing record that was set by Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele in 2005 when he set 26:17.53 in Brussels.
In August, Cheptegei broke the 5000m World Record in Monaco which was also initially held by Bekele having set his personal best in the 10,000m with a time finish of 26:48.36 in Doha.
In December 2019, Cheptegei had broken the 10km road best and later the 5km road record in February this year.
He will now shift focus to his maiden appearance at the 21.1km distance at the rescheduled World Athletics Half Marathon Championship in Gdynia on October 17.
