Panic in Pallisa as one dies of Covid19 at private clinic

Pallisa District has registered one COVID 19 death sending health workers and residents into panic.

The death was registered on Sunday at St.Stephen health center, a private clinic located in the Aboloi trading center.

The RDC Pallisa Kyeyune Ssenyonjo, who chairs the COVID19 district task force, confirmed the incident today at the district headquarters.

He said the deceased is a male adult aged 53 and a resident of Bugobero Sub- County in Manafwa district.

According to Kyeyune, the deceased had visited his relatives who are in Opadoi Apetet village, in Akisim Sub- County but fell sick and he was rushed to St Stephen Clinic, where he mysteriously died on Sunday.

Reports point out that the deceased was showing symptoms of COVID 19.

The RDC added that the following that incident, the district rapid response team has rounded up the 26 contacts and have been quarantined at various quarantine centers.

“14 of these contacts have been quarantined at St Stephen clinic, 5 out of the 14 are health workers at that clinic,12 are in Olok health center ,11 are under self-isolation, and 9 contacts are still being traced from the community.”

The RDC appealed to those who might have gotten in direct contact with the deceased to voluntarily hand over themselves.

Meanwhile, the RDC directed the medic to observe the SOPs.  He told them to arrest or chase patients who don’t want to wash hands.

He further blamed the NRM politicians for failure to adhere to the set SOPs by pulling large gatherings.

On security, the RDC blamed some police officers for conniving with the politicians to pull large crowds in exchange for money.

This comes barely a month after the RDC promised to begin chaining residents for failure to observe the SOPs.
