NRM: Aspirant accuses party electoral commission of being unfair
Confusion rocked the NRM electoral commission headquarters in Kampala yesterday when one of the aspirants stormed the place protesting what he called the “unfairness” of the electoral body.
Charles Ochaya, the NRM aspirant for Chwa County in Kitgum district stormed the commission demanding to be declared unopposed claiming his rival, a one Otim Bosmic does not have the minimum academic requirements to stand for the post.
“I petitioned NRM electoral commission about the nomination of my opponent Otim Bosmic Joyce who doesn’t have an A level certificate but Dr. Tanga Odoi, I think doesn’t want to give me justice,” Ochaya said.
Odoi, however ordered police to throw out Ochaya saying his petition had already been heard and his rival was cleared.
According to Odoi, Bosmic has all the academic requirements.
“When you petition Tanga Odoi’s court and you are not satisfied with the ruling, you don’t again appeal to the same court. You appeal to a higher court,”he advised.
Odoi also confirmed the postponement of Mawogola West primaries due to the violence that was meted on one of the candidates.
He noted that Hanifah Kawooya was assaulted by supporters of one of her rivals her rivals and therefore needed time to recover from the injuries before the primaries.
“The commission has decided to postpone NRM primaries for members of parliament Mawogola West county Constituency to a date that shall be communicated,” he said.
