Museveni summons Sembabule leaders for meeting at State House

President Museveni has summoned all the political leaders in Sembabule district for a meeting set to be held at State House in Entebbe.

According to a September,7,2020 letter by the Sembabule RDC Nickson Kabuye, the district leaders will meet Museveni on Thursday, September,10 .

“I have been directed to inform and invite you for a meeting with the President of Uganda. The meeting shall take place on Thursday 10, September 2020 at State House Entebbe.  You are also informed to report to Mulago National Specialized Hospital on September 8, 2020 for Covid-19 tests as a must,” the letter reads in part.

According to the letter, the district chairperson, NRM district chairperson, all Members of Parliament in the district, all aspirants for the position of Member of Parliament, sub-county chairpersons and all NRM sub-county chairpersons are supposed to attend the meeting.

Whereas the agenda is not yet known, the meeting organized by the President is expected to discuss the NRM primaries in Sembabule.

The NRM electoral commission last week postponed elections in the party primaries for both Mawogola North and Mawogola West constituencies in Sembabule District to a later date.

In Mawogola West, the party electoral commission said it had postponed the polls to allow investigations into acts of violence against one of the candidates.

This followed accusations by Hanifa Kawooya Bangirana that her opponent, Joseph Ssekabiito, the incumbent MP had ordered his supporters to beat her up.

In Mawogola North, the contest is between Godfrey Aine Kaguta and Shartis Kutesa Musherure both close to the First family but polls were postponed after incidents of violence in the area.

Whereas Musherure is the daughter to foreign affairs minister Sam Kutesa and  Sodo Aine Kaguta is President Museveni’s brother, both camps clashed in the build-up to last week’s election leaving many injured, prompting the ruling party electoral commission to suspend the elections.

The Thursday meeting at State House is expected to iron out differences in both constituencies in Sembabule district.
