Musician Daniel Kazibwe also is known as Ragga Dee

Kampala, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT |  Musician Daniel Kazibwe also is known as Ragga Dee has been defeated in the National Resistance Movement Lord Mayoral race in Kampala Central Division.  Kazibwe lost to Sebaana Kizito, a nephew to former Kampala Mayor, the late John Ssebaana Kizito, who polled 4,089 votes, against Kazibwe’s 25,965 votes.

The results announced this evening at Nakasero Primary School by the Kampala Central Division NRM Returning Officer Caroline Akitwi follow a primary election held in the five Divisions of Kampala City.

However, the ultimate winner of the race will be determined by results from the remaining Divisions of Kampala Capital City including Makindye, Lubaga, Kawempe and Nakawa.

Kazibwe told URN that regardless of the outcome, he is contented that he put in his best. He pledges to work with whoever wins the race and to carry out a consultation on his political career.

“I am very happy about it. It’s not a shock or a surprise. It’s hard work and I also thank God that I tried my best…to do it scientifically is very difficult… it’s very expensive but above all, God has given the result,” said Kazibwe.

This is not the first time Kazibwe is making a shot at the Lord Mayoral seat. He contested in the 2016 general election for the seat and lost to Opposition candidate Erias Lukwago, the current Lord Mayor.

Meanwhile, Eva Birungi has been declared the NRM candidate for the position of Division female councillor after polling 33,399 votes beating her rival Mubiru Zulaika who managed 6,377 votes.

Moses Kizito Nsubuga also emerged winner for the Kampala Central I LCV Councilor race after receiving 9,741 votes against Geoffrey Bahemuka’s 8,615 votes. For Kampala Central II Councilor flag, Alfred Ntambazi was declared the winner with 10,183 votes against Hamza Kagimu’s 8,926 votes.

Speaking about the election process earlier, Eva Birungi expressed confidence about its outcome saying that she had garnered more votes at different polling stations as per declaration forms secured by her agents.

Now, the successful candidates in today’s polls will become the official NRM party flag bearers at the Local Council V level and compete with candidates from other Opposition Political Parties come February 2021.
