Heavy deployment at Bukedea tally centre
Bukedea, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | More than 60 police officers and soldiers from the Uganda Peoples Defense Force- UPDF have been deployed at Bukedea District Council Hall tally centre. URN reporter saw more than 35 Police officers deployed in the first batch and more than 25 soldiers including LDUs.
Hajji Ramathan Walugembe, the Resident District Commissioner of Bukedea says he doesn’t want a repeat of last week’s primaries when supporters of candidates overpowered the police deployed at the tally centre.
Several supporters have also been blocked from accessing the tally centre. William Wilberforce Tukei, one of the candidates for the LCV seat says the deployment will bring sanity at the tally centre.
The battle for Bukedea LCV Chairperson race is between the incumbent, Moses Olemukan and William Wilberforce Tukei. The same men battled for the office in 2016 election and Tukei lost to Olemukan. He was later appointed RDC and posted to Soroti. Tukei was also Bukedea’s LCV in 2011.
