URA Boss Ditches Facebook, Instagram Over Fraudsters

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Commissioner General, John Musinguzi Rujoki will no longer use Facebook or Instagram following a number of fake accounts that have been opened in his names with the intentions of defrauding unsuspecting Ugandans.

In an announcement made on his personal twitter account and the official social media accounts for URA, Mr Musinguzi said he was closing his personal Facebook and Instagram accounts to avoid such instances.

“Following some scrupulous people coming up with fake accounts to fleece the public, I have deactivated my personal accounts on Facebook and Instagram. I will only be on twitter on the URA CG official account and my personal account,” he stated.

In June, two suspected fraudsters were arrested for creating fake Facebook accounts in the name of the URA Commissioner General.

Muhumuziibwe Ronald, 26, and Mutambuzi Francis 36 created and operated a fake Facebook account in the names of the URA CG to defraud the public through promises of jobs and business opportunities.

“We urge the public to stay vigilant and to always reach out to us through our official contact channels for inquiries about any of our services. The public is also encouraged to swiftly report cases of imposters to URA or any police station so that the unscrupulous persons are duly arrested and effectively persecuted,” URA stated
