PHOTOS: 7 Partiers Arrested at Kiwatule ‘Night Enjoyment’ Apartment
Police on Sunday night raided an apartment in Kiwatule, a Kampala suburb, arresting seven partiers for flouting COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire told ChimpReports that the operation conducted by territorial Police of Kira Road was precipitated by complaints from members of the public about the conduct of occupants of the residence.
“A lot of people would gather in an apartment located in Balintuma village near Firidina Road drinking with loud music hence disrupting the peace of wanaichi and also defying the Presidential directives,” said Owoyesigire.
“There was fear that their inconsiderate behavior could spread Covid-19 with in their village,” he emphasised.
Pictures seen by this website show the partiers enjoying expensive wines and whiskies.
Some tried to cover their faces as detectives photographed them.
“The officers accessed the apartment and managed to arrest seven suspects and are all currently detained at Kira Road Police on allegations of disobedience of lawful orders and also doing a negligent act likely to spread and infection of a disease,” said Owoyesigire without revealing their names.
Recently, a neighbour of this apartment told the media since November 2019, they have been “suffering from noise pollution from one of the properties in the area locate on Firidina road near the late Joan Kagezi’s home. The situation has worsened during the COVID lockdown and curfew.”
The neighbour further revealed that despite reporting the matter to the Officer in Charge (OC) of Kiwatule Police who visited the area, “no change has been registered…this property is a block of services apartments where residents gather for relaxation at night from Thursday to Sunday.”
It’s alleged the property had “become a night club with ladies of the night being ferried in and out by the pimps. Revelers use the parking area for dancing and merry making…”
The occupants of the property had named their place a ‘night enjoyment apartment’.
The development comes at a time the country is grappling with a spike in COVID-19 infections.
Results from COVID-19 tests done on 22 August 2020 confirmed 97 cases.
The cumulative total confirmed cases of Ugandans are now 2,263.
At least 59 of the new cases were registered in Kampala.
