Kasule Lumumba Denies Favouring Namuganza Over Kadaga in NRM CEC Elections
The Secretary General of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Justine Kasule Lumumba has dismissed allegations that she was favouring State Minister for Lands Persis Namuganza to win the position of NRM second national vice chairperson (female) which the latter lost to Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga.
Kadaga won the position in the recently concluded elections of Central Executive Committee (CEC), the highest decision making organ of the NRM party.
Lumumba yesterday said as Secretary General, she couldn’t be biased.
“For me as a Secretary General of NRM Kasule Justine Lumumba, I am holding an office of the party for everybody. I am holding an office which is supposed to facilitate and be the centre of making sure work or activities in the party, policies in the party, the Constitution of the party, all go on well,” she said.
“So for someone to make an allegation that the Secretary General was favouring a certain individual or individuals, somebody should be able to substantiate. It is not about talking about it and leaving it like that,” she added.
Lumumba noted that she held meetings with the staff at the NRM Secretariat and reminded all office holders that the offices belong to the party and not individuals.
She challenged anyone with evidence backing the allegations to produce it.
Some of the NRM top shots such as Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa openly backed Namuganza as their preferred candidate.
In the campaigns, Namuganza accused Kadaga of disloyalty to the NRM party while exercising her duty as Speaker of Parliament.
Despite their differences, Nankabirwa on Wednesday this week congratulated Kadaga upon winning the position.
