CEC: NRM’s MP, LC Primaries Shall be by Lining Up

The ruling party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) has adopted the NRM Electoral Roadmap 2020/21, insisting that the mode of voting for general parliamentary and local council primary elections shall be by lining up.

The party also decided that the internal elections will be held in accordance with the COVID-19 Regulations issued under the Public Health Act.

Unlike other parties, NRM had delayed deciding on its electoral roadmap as the country prepares for 2021 elections.

CEC had earlier in December 2018 already adopted the NRM political roadmap up to 2021, which was amended in 2019 and 2020 owing to the covid-19 pandemic.

Currently, politicians who are willing to contest for various elective positions are in the final stages of acquiring party cards.

According to a brief note issued by NRM on Thursday night, CEC

agreed to “commend the NRM Electoral Road Map to our membership, organs, and structures – as the basis for our internal elections, and election of flag bearers to all elective positions.”

CEC further said the “mode of voting for members directly elected to the Central Executive Committee and Presidential Flag Bearer, shall be by resolution by circulation.”

CEC, which has been in continuous session since Saturday, 20 June 2020, said it had undertaken a comprehensive and in-depth review of the central tasks arising from the publication of the revised Road Map from Uganda’s Electoral Commission.

The party said it considered the all-pervasive existential challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the related necessary national legal framework and health measures.
