RDC Sakwa Accused of Hiring Impersonators to Escape Manslaughter Charges
The interdicted Resident District Commissioner of Jinja, Eric Sakwa has been accused of hiring youths to impersonate the family of his alleged manslaughter victim, claiming to have purportedly forgiven him.
The family of the late Isanga Charles, a businessman who succumbed to injuries caused by brutal arrest commanded by Sakwa, said they don’t know the group of youth who staged a public show claiming to have pardoned the embattled RDC and appealed for charges against him to be dropped.
The youth claiming to be children of the deceased on Friday carried placards saying they no longer have any problem with Sakwa.
The family members of the late in Rwanda Village, Jinja district led by George Nabikamba, the uncle of the deceased, said the group has ulterior motives to jeopardize the ongoing investigations into the matter and they should be apprehended by the authority.
“I am appealing to the IGP Martin Okoth Ochola to arrest these people claiming to be part of us when we are still mourning here with all the relatives,” said Mr. Nakibamba.
He also called on President Yoweri Museveni and Speaker of Parliament take interest in the matter to ensure justice prevails.
Meanwhile the widow, Hadijja Namukaya said their 11 children did not appear in the alleged hired show to exonerate Sakwa.
“We have seen there is a family claiming to be part of us but we don’t know them. It is possible that Sakwa hired them to confuse and spoil the investigations by the court,” she said.
Mafubira sub-county LCIII the Chairman, Hamis Kiganira Nagaya accused politicians from Jinja including Butembe County’s Nelson Lufafa for scheming to politicize the matter.
Mr Sakwa, also facing other charges of robbery and malicious damage to property, was on April 29 2020 granted bail by Jinja Chief Magistrate, Jessica Chemeri.
