Covid19 Results Delayed as Truck Drivers Directive Kicks In
Ministry of Health last night did not release Sunday’s Covid19 results as has been the norm for the past two months.
The Ministry revealed this morning that the results were delayed due to changes occasioned by a recent ban on Covid19-positive truck drivers from entering the country.
Government last week announced that no truck driver will be allowed in the country without presenting proof in form of a certificate, that they don’t have the Coronavirus.
As such, the ministry says results for yesterday had to be sorted accordingly which delayed the testing process.
“Following the Presidential directive of only allowing in truck drivers who test negative, samples had to be sorted appropriately,” the ministry announced.
“Samples had to be divided between UVRI and UNHLS for quick turnaround time. Testing at NHLS started at 7.30pm last evening. Results will be communicated shortly.”
As President Yoweri Museveni’s directive, only Ugandan truck drivers who test positive for the virus are allowed in the country and driven straight to hospital.
Uganda currently has 227 cases of Covid19, having jumped from 160 in the previous two days. The big jump came as the country was nearing the end of the 2-week extension of the shut down as directed by President Museveni.
The President will this evening address the nation on the next step to be taken.
