COVID-19: Uganda Cases Rise to 114 as 13 Truck Drivers Test Positive

Results of samples tested in Uganda on 8 May, 2020 have confirmed 13 new COVID-19 cases from  2,421 samples of truck drivers, Chimp Corps report.

“Out of the 13 new cases,7 are Kenyans, 4 are Ugandans while 2 are Tanzanians,” said Health Ministry.

“Tracking them has commenced and the public will be informed accordingly.”

This is one the largest number of positive tests confirmed in a single in the last few weeks.

The Ministry said all 740 community samples tested negative for COVID-19.

The rapid assessment exercise being carried out across the country seeks to establish the prevalence of COVID-19 among communities in Uganda.

The survey will evaluate if there is community transmission of COVID-19 in Uganda and establish the extent of community transmission, if confirmed.

The Health Ministry on Saturday said the total  COVID-19 confirmed cases in Uganda stand at 114.

Total samples tested on 08 May were 3,161.

55 patients have been discharged after being successfully treated for COVID-19.

Kenyan authorities this week said its truck drivers are undergoing testing at all entry border points and that only drivers whose results are showing they are negative are being allowed into the country.

This followed intense pressure and introduction of stringent measures from the Ugandan government to prevent further spread of COVID-19 by truck drivers.
