COVID-19: Masindi Police Barracks Cordoned off
Authorities have cordoned off and started taking samples of cops at Masindi police station after a policeman in the area tested positive for virus.
The Ministry of Health on Saturday revealed the man in Masindi who tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday during the rapid assessment tests was a policeman.
“The Masindi case is a 29-year-old policeman who was in charge of enforcing curfew in the district,” the Health Ministry announced today Saturday evening.
The cop, who was residing in the police barracks at the time of the test, has since been admitted at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital.
The health Ministry said the “Police barracks has been cordoned off” to curb spread of COVID-19.
The Health Ministry is conducting a rapid assessment survey among high risk groups to establish community transmission.
Two cases of Ugandans with COVID-19 have since been identified in the last few days, raising fears of COVID-19 prevalence in some areas of Uganda which is still under a lockdown till May 5.
Results from this survey will inform the phased lifting of the lockdown, according to Minister Aceng.
This survey will evaluate if there is community transmission of COVID-19 in Uganda and establish its extent.
Three cases of COVID-19 were confirmed on Saturday, bringing to 88 the total number of infections in Uganda.
They include a Burundian and Kenyan truck driver who arrived in Uganda via Malaba and a Ugandan in Rakai.
