1st Covid-19 Patient Discharged from Gulu Hospital

The first patient who was admitted with Covid-19 at Gulu regional referral hospital isolation ward has been discharged after recovering.

The 41 year Old Ugandan Truck driver and resident of Wakiso district  was admitted at the Isolation ward on May 1st when he was intercepted from Elegu border point.

The Minister for State for Primary Health Care Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu while handing over a discharge certificate from the Ministry of Health to the Hospital director said the patient still needed counselling and 14 more days of self-isolation.

‘’We are happy that he recovered from Covid-19, he should therefore go for 14 days’ self-quarantine at home as he gets some Psycho-social help,” said Dr. Kaducu.

Dr. Kaducu further urged Ugandans to stop stigmatizing patients who have recovered from Covid-19 because anyone can get the disease.

Gulu referral hospital is currently treating about 14 Covid-19 positive cases.

12 are at the Hospital Isolation ward, while 2 are at Gulu School of Clinical Officers in Laroo division in Gulu Municipality.
