15-year-old Girl Killed as Floods Wreak Havoc in Isingiro

A 15-year-old girl was on Saturday swept away by floods following heavy rain in Isingiro District.

Kyarikunda Asiimire, a Senior one student of Kisyoro secondary school, is said to have been swept away by raging water on her way from collecting firewood in Rubagano cell Kagaara parish in Kabuyanda sub county.

The Gomborora Internal Security Officer Kabuyanda Patrick Tusingwire confirmed the report.

“The rains have spent more than fifteen days raining heavily everyday but today May 2, 2020 experienced nasty scenario of seeing heavy and sweeping water flooding our area. it was bad,” he said.

Isingiro RDC Herbert Muhangi said running water from hills converged in the valley of Omukatasa- Kamosa- Rwamwijuka.

He said if the rains continue at the current rate the floods may cause more havoc urging people to avoid carrying out economic activities in valley areas

The area MP, Alex Byarugaba Bakunda, said that the floods  have destroyed gardens and killed livestock.

He urged the Office of the Prime Minister to provide emergency support to the people in Isingiro south.
