Kanungu: 25 Quarantined After Sneaking in and Out of DRC for Burial

A total of 25 people in Kanungu who are reported to have recently sneaked into Eastern Democratic Republic Congo and returned to Uganda have been put under quarantine.

Hajji Shaffique Sekandi the Kanungu Resident District Commissioner says the 25 were rounded up from their homes after it was established that some of them traveled to Rutshuru in DRC for a burial.

Hajji Ssekandi says these flouted the ban on border crossing and their status could not be ascertained and therefore the best the authorities could do was to put them under quarantine where they could be monitored.

These have been taken to Matanda where a quarantine facility has been designated.

The facility however, is said to be running out of mattresses for use as more detainees are being brought in.

Earlier, another 8 people who had been quarantined at Kihihi Health Center IV were discharged after completing their mandatory 14 days and showed no symptoms.

Hajji Ssekandi says that even though there has been no case of Coronavirus confirmed in the district people should not relax in observing the guidelines of the ministry of health.

“People are urged to continue observing the Ministry of Health guidelines and President Museveni directives to ensure that the Coronavirus Pandemic is controlled,” he urged.
