Bank of Uganda Moves to Replace Seven Directors
Bank of Uganda (BoU) is set to replace seven directors who are retiring or seeking greener pastures elsewhere, Chimp Corps report.
The vacant positions are Executive Director Information Technology (EDT) which is being held by Elliot Mwebya; Executive Director Operations (EDO) which is occupied by Mary Katarikawe; Director Non-Bank Financial Institutions (DNBFI) which is run by Charles Okello and Director Medical (DM) under Tendo Nsereko.
Others are Director Human Resources (DHR), Director Financial Stability (DFS) and Director Financial Markets (DFM).
The central bank said in an internal advert dated April 24 that qualified staff should apply for the jobs.
For the position of Executive Director, according to the advert, an applicant must have relevant academic qualifications and also served “substantively at the rank of Director for a minimum of 2 years and Satisfy the person specifications stated in the job description of the position being applied for.”
Government recently embarked on implementing reforms to strengthen the operations of the central bank.
This was after MPs raised concerns about the manner in which the bank was being run following the controversial resolution of commercial banks.
For example the proposed reforms seek to amend article 161 (41) of the Constitution in order to detach the offices of the leadership of the Board from the top management of BoU.
President Museveni recently appointed Dr Michael Atingi-Ego as deputy governor of the Central Bank to replace Dr Louis Kasekende in what was seen as a major step in revamping the institution.
