2 Arrested in Namungoona as Residents Stage Demos to Demand for Relief Food

Residents of Namungoona town yesterday staged demonstrations demanding that government brings to them Covid19 relief food.

According to Police, two people were arrested to help in the investigation.

In a statement by Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman SP Patrick, these were part of a group that blocked the road demanding for relief food that is being distributed by the government.

“In their unlawful protest, the group claimed that they were hungry,” Onyango said

He identified the suspects in custody as Eria Eria and Farouk Mukwaya, all residents of Namugoona, Rubaga Division, Kampala.

He added that they have been informed that the group was mobilised by a politician who is intending to contest for Parliamentary elections for Rubaga North.

“These youths were mobilised by the politician to demonstrate to show that the government has not provided them with food and yet the distribution exercise is still going on,” said police publicist

According to the Government plan, all the vulnerable people in Kampala and Wakiso will benefit from the ongoing relief food distribution.

“We appeal to members of the public to remain calm because the team supplying food will reach them at any time. We discourage the youths and other people to avoid being used to hold unlawful protests as this exposes their life to Covid19 as you all know crowds are one the avenues in which the diseases quickly spread,”

Relatedly, The Joint Security Task Force also arrested two people driving with forged movement stickers.

These have been identified as Besigye Denis who was driving motor vehicle registration number UBB 721K and Nasif Luswata who was nabbed in car number UBE 599S.

Their vehicles are currently parked at Police Headquarters, Naguru.

Police preferred charges of forgery and impersonation against Besigye and Luswata.

“As security forces we promise to continue carrying out operations to arrest and impound vehicles that are on the road without authorized movement stickers,” said police
