TUMUKUNDE SAGA: MP Nyakecho Husband Arrested
The husband of Tororo North Member of Parliament, Annet Nyakecho, Levi Otim Akonopeesa, has been detained with her at Jinja Road police station.
Nyakecho, who is also the national coordinator of Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde 2021 presidential plan, was taken with over half a dozen team members to Criminal Investigations Department headquarters Kibuli to record statements before being detained at different police stations on Friday.
ChimpReports has now learned that Otim, a private business consultant, was among the people rounded up at Tumukunde’s office in Kololo on Thursday during the arrest of the general by the joint security team.
They were first held at the office for 18 hours before being formally arrested on Friday.
A close family member told this website on Saturday evening that Hon. Nyakecho was with the husband when the incident happened.
“They were together when security raided the office in Kololo,” said a family source who asked not to be named.
This website understands Mr. Otim drove his wife Nyakecho to the Kololo office on Thursday evening.
We are, however, yet to ascertain if he is actively a member of Tumukunde presidential consultation team.
It remains unclear what charges police is preferring against the team, that includes two sons of Tumukunde; Amanya Nduduhura Tumukunde and Philips Tumukunde, since the general is being held over the personal statements he made on Television.
When contacted on Saturday morning, Police Spokesman Fred Enanga described the matter as sensitive investigation not meant to be regularly communicated and no one in police is being briefed about it.
“This is a sensitive investigation and the investigators have been left to do their work. There is no any progressive report yet,” said Enanga.
Enanga stated in a statement released on Friday morning that Tumukunde is going to face treason charges and incitement of violence.
“The arrest (of Tumukunde) follows his utterances in a series of radio and television interviews, which seek to foster hatred that might lead to inter-community violence, fomenting and glorifying violence in general,” said Enanga.
Adding: “He in addition, calls on the support of a neighboring country to support him in removing the current leadership with or without the ballot.”
Tumukunde said on local television that the neighboring Rwanda should interest itself in supporting a regime change in Uganda.
“He is therefore, being charged under Sections 23 (2) b and 23 (3) b, of the Penal code Act, which deals with instigating persons to invade the Republic of Uganda and inciting any persons to make a mutinous assembly,” added Enanga.
