NRM Youths Demand For National Delegates Conference To Elect New Party Chairperson

National Resistance Movement (NRM) Youths from Greater Masaka have petitioned President Yoweri Museveni on matters concerning their party among which is the issue of national delegates conference.

The youths led by their leader Mr Bruce Tushabe Nzabanita wrote to the President who also doubles as the chairman of the NRM expressing concern about the party constitution which provides for the meeting of the national conference.

According to Nzabanita, the party has never convened for any meeting since 2015 which has “jeopardized many operations.”

The NRM constitution states that the National conference shall meet twice during its term, provided that an extra ordinary meeting may be held as and when the chairperson deems fit or when requisitioned by the resolution of the National Executive Council (NEC).

” It should be noted that none of these was ever exercised yet we have one year left to general elections in 2021,” reads part of the petition.

The youths also noted that the same applies to the districts conferences with the bias being greater Masaka region.

However, they also expressed concern about positions which are created by the party constitution through elections but instead appointed by President Museveni.

The positions according to the youth are secretary General, chairperson NRM electoral commission, spokesperson and the chairperson himself.

They argued that since the members of the party don’t participate in selecting such persons, they cannot be held accountable which has grossly affected the party in many ways.

About the chairmanship of the party, the youths requested President Museveni to relinquish power of the party leadership and hold on the presidency.

Mr Nzabanita pointed out that Mr Museveni has not been able to run the party as chairman simply because he is over occupied by presidential roles.
