CECAFA 2019: Expect More From Djibouti – Mette

Djibouti national team head coach Julien Mette believes that his side is improving every passing day and is optimistic that they will surprise several spectators.

Djibouti is showing its growth in the ongoing CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup where they are on the brink of making it into the semi-finals for the first time ever after picking up four points in two games played.

They drew 0-0 with Somalia in the first game before pulling a shock 2-1 victory over Burundi and will now face Eritrea on Friday in their final game to determine whether or not they make the last four.

A win will guarantee them a place while a loss will mean they have to beat Uganda on Sunday to make it happen.

Mette has been in charge of Djibouti for 10 games, winning four, drawing four and losing only two.

“Since I came in here in June, we have been improving. It is just not about CECAFA now, but this has been a team on the steady rise. The advantage is that we have all our players in Djibouti so it has been easy to train at least four times a week since June,” he said before adding.

“There is more to come from this team certainly. We want to not only be a force to reckon with in the CECAFA region, but also in African football,” he added.

Before joining Djibouti, the French tactician worked in Congo Brazaville as the General Manager of AS Otoho, but he left the position for new and bigger challenge.
