Brig.Takirwa takes over as UPDF second division commander

Brig Kayanja Muhanga has handed over the command and control of the UPDF second division in Mbarara to the newly appointed commandant, Brig. Francis Takirwa.

President Museveni, who is also the commander in chief of the armed forces recently appointed Takirwa, who was  the chief of Education and Sports to replace Muhanga who was sent for a year’s  course at the National Defence College for Strategic Studies in South Africa

On Thursday, at a colorful function presided over by the Chief of Defence Forces in the UPDF, Gen. David Muhoozi, Brig.Kayanja Muhanga was hailed as a selfless officer who has served the nation diligently.

Gen.Muhoozi asked the incoming commander to excel higher, arguing that the second division is one of the largest and most productive divisions in the country and therefore requires to be handled with utmost care.

The CDF noted that the Commander in Chief has a lot of hopes in Brig. Takirwa to take over the mantle from Brig Kayanja since he(Takirwa)  is also a very experienced field commander.

Prior to the new appointment as second division commander, Brig.Takirwa was the Chief of Education, Sports and Culture in the Ugandan army but also a UPDF representative in parliament.

The function was also attended by the fifth Infantry Division Commander Brig. Steven Mugerwa, the newly created mountain Division Commander Brig. Moses Kwikiriza, Brigade Commanders and other heads of departments at the Division headquarters in Mbarara among others.
