Museveni to Launch Multi-Billion National CCTV Command Center

President Yoweri Museveni who is the  commander in Chief of Armed Forces is Thursday expected to launch a new National Security Command Center at Uganda Police Force headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.

The Command centre is a structure which will be the heart of the C4I, that is Command, Control, Communication, Coordination and Intelligence for Uganda Police Force in collaboration with sister security agencies.

It will be the national command and control of the newly installed security cameras in the country.

The high tech facility located at Naguru has costed the government of Uganda a total of Shs 455 billion.

“It is where the videos, data and voice of CCTV and other systems will be monitored from,” said security officials.

Officials said that this will also be an ICT research and innovation center for security agencies. For instance, all security software will be in house, developed from the center.

Prior to the launch, the force passed out 45 senior Police officers who will be deployed as commanders at the facility.

Participants were drawn from Field Force Unit, Counter Terrorism, Traffic Flying Squad, 999 response team, all regional Police Commanders, Commanders in KMP and Regional Traffic Commanders.

Presiding over the pass out on Tuesday, the Deputy Director of Human Resources Development SCP Felix Ndyomugyeni said that the course was timely and urged the commanders to use the cameras to curtail crime in the country in order to attract investors as well.

“Investors cannot come where there is insecurity, so make maximum use of cameras to fight crime in your area so that investors can come in Uganda,” he said.

The training was conducted by Blue Global Services from United Kingdom and it was supported by Huwei, the company that was contracted by government to install cameras in the country.

This development was ordered by President Museveni in 2017 after the murder of Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

A total of 3233 cameras have been erected in Kampala Metropolitan areas and now the project is set to roll out to other parts of the country.
