Man arrested in Gulu for defiling 11 year old step daughter
Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Gulu have arrested a 33-year-old man, for defiling his 11-year old step-daughter.
The minor was defiled on Sunday in Bwobo Aywaya sub ward, Patuda parish, Layibi division in Gulu municipality. The case was reported to Mican police post by Zainabu Atayo, the victim’s mother.
Atayo in her statement says that she left her daughter under the care of her stepfather Jamal Tabban.
The victim later reported to her mother how the stepfather allegedly molested her. Upon being examined, the victim was found with a ruptured hymen.
Victor Ahabwe, the Aswa river region deputy regional police commander says that Jamal is being detained at Gulu central police station pending further inquiries.
According to police annual crime report, defilement was one of the leading crimes in the country after common assaults with up to 15,366 cases reported in 2018 compared to 14,985 in 2017. The cases were rampant in rural areas with 8,217 compared to 7,107 cases in urban centres respectively.
