The campaign will kick off this week on Wednesday 16th to 20th of October in schools and designated posts in different parts of country
All parents/ caretakers are highly encouraged to take their children within that age to take their children for Immunization to avoid exposing their children to Measles-Rubella diseases which are highly deadly and could lead to death
Below are reasons why you must immunise your child
1. Measles and Rubella are highly infectious diseases and among the leading causes of I’ll health and deaths among children in Uganda
2. A number of districts in Uganda have not reached the 95% measles immunization coverage which is necessary for the interruption of measles transmission.
3. The country has experienced continued outbreaks of measles and Rubella since 2016 to date. Currently there are about 109 districts from 2016 that has reported measles outbreak while 59 districts have reported Rubella outbreak in the same period
4. Uganda still has a sizable number of unimmunised children and are still at risk of getting Measles and Rubella diseases
6. Immunization strengthens a child’s ability to fight measles and Rubella and reduces the chances of suffering from the same diseases
6. Immunization prevents complications such as health problems, hearing problems, development delays and blindness among others in children
7. It reduces the burden.
/costs on parents/caregivers and communities in terms of time and money spent on treatments
7. It contributes to a child’s proper growth and development
8. Protects the entire community from childhood preventable diseases. Every child that is immunised with Measles-Rubella vaccines will be protected from the diseases
9. Immunization enables children to perform better in schools
According to the Ministry, the vaccines are safe, effective, free and approved by the World Health Organization and the government of Uganda
