Police steps up operations against criminal gangs, nine suspects arrested
The police has intensified operations across the country to weed out criminals and counter the new wave of violent crime.
Police confirmed yesterday during their weekly press briefing that they have so far arrested nine suspects from Kampala metropolitan area and South Western Uganda for allegedly involving in armed robberies and four guns recovered.
The operation conducted in Ntungamo district led to the arrest of six suspects who are suspected to have involved in armed robberies between 10th and 26th September and have been terrorising Ntungamo, Mbarara and neighbouring areas.
On arrest police recovered four guns, three motorcycles, facial masks, among others.
The arrested suspects are: Kalenzi Rogers, Nuwagaba Obadia, Bahati Fred, Mbogo Brian, Tumwiine Augustine and Nkurunziza Sam.
Other three suspects were arrested in Bwebajja Kampala Metropolitan area, include Mawanda David, Nsubuga Gerald and Kuliisiya Ronald.
Police said two other suspects are on the run.
Meanwhile, police said it had arrested nine Congolese nationals and arraigned then before court for illegally fishing in Ugandan Waters without a license.
The Police have called on the general public to be more vigilant and work with the force to fight crime.
