Museveni Stunned by Eddie Kenzo’s Story of Resilience
Edrisah Musuuza alias Eddie Kenzo, the Ugandan music superstar who lost his parents at a tender age and lived on alms on Kampala streets, met with President Museveni on Monday afternoon.
At State House Entebbe, Museveni attentively listened to Kenzo’s story with shock.
“His story is one of resilience and hard work,” said Museveni after meeting with Kenzo.
“Growing up as an orphan to a celebrated and inspirational artiste,” the president added.
Kenzo, who was recently crowned African Entertainer of the year and BET award winner, told Museveni how he struggled to survive as a street child.
He also revealed to Museveni how he has managed to shine a spotlight on Uganda’s entertainment industry on the international scene through music.
Kenzo said he had promoted Uganda’s image and tourism potential by winning several music awards.
The meeting with Kenzo is significant considering Museveni is meeting stiff political resistance from musician Bobi Wine ahead of the 2021 presidential elections.
Having Kenzo on board ahead of the polls would energyise Museveni’s political base in urban areas.
Kenzo recently released a song titled ‘Volongoto’ which many interpreted as critical of government policies.
Others speculated that Kenzo was singing about his troubled marital relationship.
The musician said the controversial song was part of his discussions with Museveni.
Kenzo was in high spirits after meeting the head of state.
“Thank you for your encouraging remarks. In response to my past post as I went to state house to meet the president. Indeed I want to confirm that it has come to pass and I have met the the President of Uganda,” said Kenzo.
“It was a warm and a fruitful discussion about my individual achievements but also most importantly about the huge potential and opportunities available in the arts industry which he pledged to give full government support,” he added.
